Ok, what CAN I put in the crib with my newborn?
My mother inlaw bought us a lovely set of items for the crib (quilt, bumper, sheet, blankets). And I just found the warning label which suggests to leave all soft items out of the crib. Does that include the bumper? Is there anything that I can leave in there aside from the fitted sheet? What the heck is the point of having a nice quilt set if you can’t use it!? 
You can use most of it as they get older and the risk of SIDS decreases.
I put in my son’s bumper at around 4/5 months.
And I used the quilt for him to play on. Even then, it’s just not as practical as a blanket for him. I started using a blanket around 10 months. before that I just dressed him appropriately to make sure he’d be warm enough when sleeping with footsie pajamas.
I did use a heartbeat bear, it mimics womb sounds. I stuck it in the corner. But that was all he had in his crib for a long time.
Do what you feel comfortable with. Just be aware of the SIDS risk.
Oh, and the crib skirt is a plus you can use now, along with the fitted sheet. It hides anything you store under the crib.
